RWA supports a variety of workshops and training events throughout the year. Some of these are oriented toward homeowners. Some provide workshops and training to the landscape industry. Others offer training to businesses.
All promote services to water customers that can stretch our water supply through improved water efficiency. By saving water we also save energy, preserve our natural resources and provide water for our growing population and economy.
Integrated Landscape Workshops are provided to homeowners each spring
and autumn. Typically they teach elements of landscape design and irrigation
design. Topics include:
- Site considerations
- Determining and prioritizing your landscape needs
- Selection of water efficient plants
- Basic principles of irrigation design
- Different irrigation methods
- Irrigation tools
- Irrigation maintenance and operation

Irrigation Scheduling and Maintenance Workshops are scheduled in
the winter for landscape maintenance professionals. Frequently cosponsored
by the green industry the workshops emphasize:
- Irrigations systems that minimize water waste
- Avoiding runoff that carries fertilizers and pesticides to storm drains
- Scheduling irrigation run times

Master Gardeners
The trained volunteers of the UC Master Gardeners program are a great
source of information to answer your gardening or plant questions. Their
free services include a variety of gardening classes.

Sustainable Landscape Symposium
Annually - This conference introduces landscape professionals to cutting
edge trends and techniques to meet the challenges of water conservation,
storm water pollution, resource conservation, and pesticide and fertilizer
reduction. An all-star line-up of speakers, combined with our mini-trade
show of innovative products and services will get you ready to meet the
challenges of landscaping in the 21st century. More...
Water Education Fair
This public event is held in the spring to emphasize water education month.
Many water suppliers and other organizations offer games, teaching materials
and fun stuff for kids and their parents.
Salmon Festival
This public event is usually held in October during the Saturday and Sunday
of Columbus Day Weekend at Lake Natoma and Nimbus Fish Hatchery. It emphasizes
the wonderful benefits and habitat provided by the Lower American River
as it flows through Sacramento. In addition to many informative booths,
the festival offers, salmon cooking classes, games and entertainment for
the children, float trips on the American River, musical presentations
and tours of the fish hatchery.
