Future Water Resources
Funding - How Can the Sacramento Region Integrate Future Opportunities.-
There are a number of pressures on our water systems including population
increases, aging infrastructure, increasing regulatory requirements, a
greater focus on region-wide concerns such as the quality of our groundwater
resources, and various manifestations of climate change including increasing
average temperatures, rising sea level, and fundamental changes to hydrology.
It is essential that water managers embrace integrated water resources
management to continue to meet customer needs and cope with the full range
of risk factors. The Sacramento region is ahead of many areas in California
in working on regional approaches. As other regions become more organized,
there will be increased competition for grant and loan programs to augment
funding for regional programs. This workshop is aimed at providing additional
understanding of the policy context of integrated water resources management,
recent experience of several regional efforts, and a view to the future.
